There is a wonderful web site,, which has a number of doll patterns from a Japanese designer who signs herself Runo Dollmaker. It's well worth exploring.
Things I learned making this doll:
  • Like Pam Grose she used the "skin over" and needle shaping technique for faces. It gave me a little different look at how to do this.
  • My stash brocade was too heavy for her kimono so it's undrapeable.
  • Rather than pipe cleaners she used wire wrapped with batting to insert in the dolls fingers. I could not get this to work!
